Monetize Your RSS Feed With Pheedo
August 13, 2007
When RSS based advertising first arrived on the scene, Feedburner Advertising Network (FAN) was the only service offering a means of monetizing blog and website RSS feeds. Neat eh? Well you’d have to work really hard to get accepted to FAN because they are still highly exclusive, and you can only join the program by invitation from the folks over at Feedburner.
Now if you’re the dedicated internet marketer that you ought to be, you would find another means of monetizing your RSS feeds. Ask and ye shall be rewarded - more services cropped up with RSS advertising options. One such service I recently found out about is Pheedo.
Instead of serving contextually relevant ads, Pheedo offers niche based ads from reputed companies like HP, Microsoft, Toyota, and Subaru. One advantage of choosing Pheedo over other RSS ad-serving networks includes the ability to customize the frequency of ads in your RSS feed.
The next question you should be asking yourself is : “What is the opportunity cost of incorporating RSS advertising (for relatively small ROI), while decreasing the usability factor for your overall feed?”. RSS advertising only brings in sufficient monetary returns if your feed subscriber base is greater than 500 users, and hence you might want to wait it out until you reach that point.
This was not a paid review of Pheedo. I was not coerced or paid in any form to write this post

I haven’t monetized my RSS Feed yet. I applied for FAN but I had no response from them. I need to give this service a shot.

Hey Varun - FAN is an invitation only network that is quite snooty about its site approvals. To be quite honest, if you’re not averaging 250 readers or more you might want to consider services like Pheedo or Text Link Ads’ Feedvertising.
