How To Get Visited By Probloggers Using Google Alerts

Got No Time For Linkbait?
Let’s face it folks, good linkbait is not only hard to come up with - it’s also just as hard to seed so that it takes off virally. Some might measure this success by the number of Sphinns and Diggs they get, while others give precedence to inbound links, organic traffic, or even StumbleUpon. Of course, if you’re looking to make good linkbait great, there’s nothing better than drawing a problogger’s positive mention towards it.
Understanding How Influencers Think
Dosh Dosh has a great post on influencing powerful social media users, and the tactic I’m about to discuss can be used as a quick and dirty way to attract some STAR attention, or to top up the techniques Maki has already discussed.
At Search Engine People, where I work, we often use the term “Influencing the Influencer” when planning out Social Media Marketing campaigns for clients. My tactic focuses on two theories of persuasion discussed in Robert Cialdini’s Six Weapons of Influence - Liking and Reciprocity.
In short, people love hearing others talking about them - whether it be their feats, failures or trials and tribulations. Think about it for a second, wouldn’t you be enticed to pay attention if you heard someone else saying something about you? It’s quite the same on the net for blogging and internet marketing professionals such as Darren Rowse, Yaro Starak, John Chow, and Jeremy Schoemaker. They all love hearing others talking about them, because it increases their authority within their respective industries.
GoogleBaiting The Famous

That’s right I own that term now (GoogleBait). Let me explain - If you’re the who’s who of internet marketing, seo, or blogging you don’t have the time to scour the net to see if anyone mentioned you in a blog post or otherwise. Instead, you’ve probably set up a Google Alert to send you a notification if anyone so much as mentions your name in blog postings, comments, or anywhere else that Google can index.

Yesterday, I wrote a post on Why You Shouldn’t Lose Sleep Over Page Rank and briefly mentioned Yaro Starak. Today, Yaro visited Daily Moolah as can be seen above in my MyBlogLog widget. How did he end up here? My bet is that he made his way here through a Google Alert that lead him to the post on Daily Moolah.
Now that was easy! You are now equipped with yet another tactic in your internet marketing arsenal to bait powerful social media and influential bloggers into visiting your blog. Please respect the limited time that these fine bloggers and marketing guru’s have, and only bait ‘em if you’ve got something fairly significant to say ![]()
Hello! Thank You for visiting my blog. If you're new here, you should subscribe to my RSS feed for free updates from Daily Moolah. Thanks again for visiting!

It’s funny how anytime someone writes about link bait it turns into link bait. I just gave you a well deserved stumble as well.
This is a very good thought and one I’ve actually never really pondered.

If I blog about Santa Claus I wonder if he’ll bring me a bright red bycicle! J/K. This is a good tactic and I used it myself in a recent link roundup post. The thing is, it’s one thing just mentioning them but presumably what you want is that person to become a regular reader, and perhaps to link to you. You have to make the content stand out if you want them to stick around.

I have used this tactic too. In fact, almost anytime I link to someone’s blog they visit my site. I hope they like what they read.

You can also accomplish the same thing by sending them an email. Or a piece of mail.
The real trick is getting them to care about you and what you are doing.

All valid points my friends! Ideally, I will send an email to authority bloggers letting them know of my post, but this tactic is more of an addon to your arsenal of baiting tactics. happy linkbait! — Dev
