Download Yahoo Messenger 9 Beta

Date October 31, 2007

Yahoo! today released a new version of Yahoo! Messenger 9 IM client that features new skins (IM environments), many more emoticons and a redesigned look and feel.

Yahoo! Messenger 9 is a wonderful upgrade for users who regular share web videos and photos with other IM friends. Yahoo! Messenger 9 now supports Windows Vista by default and is available in six new different languages. This new version has a lot of GUI changes and a very attractive new design. There are also some annoying new alerts which ask you to choose from IM, VoIp chat and SMS every time you click on a contact to start a conversation.

Now when you paste a YouTube video URL in Yahoo! Messenger 9 chat window, your friends can watch the video clip inline without having to visit the YouTube Website.

It also works great for Flickr photostreams or any other other photos on the web - you can either paste photo URLs in the IM window or drag-n-drop pictures from the desktop - your friends can preview the pictures right inside the Yahoo! chat window :)

Another useful feature - if you are going Offline, you can configure Yahoo! Messenger 9 to forward all the Offline IM message to a your mobile number as SMS text messages.

Yahoo! Messenger 9 is only available for Windows XP and Vista.

hmm I use yahoo messenger daily and didn’t know they released this :) A bit off topic of the upgrade, but Yahoo has been getting on my nerves lately with all the advertising they do. Theres nothing wrong with monetizing your work, but when it gets to the point of annoyance I think something has to give. Everytime I check my Y email I have adverts popping out at me and the coding is messed up as well. The page is always jumping etc.

Also, their member directory has been weird for years. Sometimes it will show no users online, although you know there are as your searching within a large city, while other times you have to go through 5 blank pages before you start seeing members who are on line.

Now they’re having legal issues in China.

Anyway, I always have to rant a bit when I hear Yahoo mentioned, I hope you don’t mind :)
