How To Read RSS Feeds Via Instant Messenger
November 26, 2007
There’s quite a few ways to check on updates to the plethora of RSS feeds most netizens subscribe to, but not all methods are created equal. Although I prefer reading my feeds through Google Reader, it does mean I have to login to the Google Reader website and spend my time sorting through feeds. This isn’t always productive, especially when I originally intend to read updates to a few of my favourite blogs.

Enter a service that delivers your feed updates to you via instant messenger, namely Feed Crier. For the sites you regularly visit anyways, this is a huge time saver as you’ll get alerted via IM for any blog updates.
The point here is to make sure you only add your favourite feeds though, because you’ll get overloaded with IM pings with the mass of feeds you’ve already subscribed to. Thankfully, FeedCrier does come equipped with a Panic button and filtering options that can be set to determine the frequency with which you are notified of updates via IM.

Hey Dev, thanks for the heads up on this.
Not sure if it’s an undocumented feature (didn’t see it anywhere on the feedcrier website) but instead of using their website to add feeds, you can just IM the feed link to feedcrier and it’ll add it for you.
Won’t be a full replacement for my AIRified GReader, but will definitely use it for the top 10-20 that are buried in my Big Damn List™ of RSS feeds.
