4 Reasons Why Good Bloggers Write Bad Posts

Date July 25, 2007

Why say more when one can say less? Why be the same if you can dare to be different? All questions that should be on your mind when you’re about to write your next post. If you don’t think about these questions already, it’s time to start doing so now.

Here are some quick points you should always remember before pushing that ‘publish’ button:

  1. Ramble Ramble On and Your Visitors Shall be Gone: Good writing is much like poetry - it needs to flow. This is your cue to omit needless words, and start being as concise as possible in your posts. No one likes reading paragraphs that span pages, so why bother writing them?
  2. Is Your Content Scannable?: People read very differently on the internet than they do books. In fact, your readers are scanning your content for information, not reading it for leisure. So don’t write posts that make you think too hard when you are trying to read them for a good length of time and across several paragraphs, meant to have some profound meaning. ‘Nuff said? Capice!
  3. Apply Your Principles To The Masses: Too many so-called experts preach what works for them, without standardizing their model of achieving anything for the masses. What works great for you might not for your next reader, so assume your reader’s don’t know what you’re talking about.
  4. The Importance of “We”, and “Us” : This is one of the first rules you learn in the consultancy business. Engage your readers into believing that you share a common and mutual goal. It’ll work wonders in building a strong and loyal community around your brand.

So there you have it - 4 things you should always remember to check before hitting that ‘publish’ button. Can you think of any more?
