3 Painless Ways to Boost Your Alexa Ranking

Date July 26, 2007

Your Alexa ranking can be a severe cause of frustration if you don’t take the proper steps to optimize it. Although the Alexa ranking is a very poor measure of your real hit counts and page views, it is an imperative tool towards monetizing your blog. Services such as Text-Link-Ads weigh your Alexa ranking heavily while calculating the value of each link you can sell on your blog. Here are a 3 painless ways to boost your Alexa ranking phenomenally :)

  1. Install the Alexa Toolbar/ Sparky for Firefox : Alexa measures your web traffic in unusual ways if you aren’t using their toolbar. Don’t lose out on valuable traffic by installing it today (and on as many computers as possible!). Download the Alexa Toolbar for IE, or Sparky for Firefox.
  2. Implement Alexa Redirects: Using Alexa redirects on external sites is a great way of boosting your ranking. Include them in all forum signatures, social user profiles, and even as your browser’s homepage. Here’s what your redirect should look like : http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?www.yoursite.com
  3. Alexa Redirect Plugin: Redirect your visitors on all internal links within your Wordpress hosted blog using this plugin. No manual work required, and an automatic boost to your rankings.

this a great tool for bloggers. Many blogger friends of mine don’t realize the potential of monetizing their websites. On the other hand they have already generated organic visitors because they don’t really use adverts. i’ll let them in on this and they will surely enjoy this WP plugin

      Dev,

How does all the internal redirects affect what search engines think about the site? Are there any penalties?

Hi Alex - The internal redirects are only useful for boosting alexa ratings. This is especially important because the majority of blog visitors do not have the alexa toolbar installed, and having the redirect present lets alexa know the correct measure of your traffic.

There are no penalties to having an alexa redirect on internally linked pages. I do believe that the best way to install tracking on your website is installing the alexa widget within your theme’s sidebar.
